Riccardo Photography

At Riccardo Photography, my motto is simple. “To make all our clients happy by exceeding their expectations and capturing portraits that will be on their walls for many years to come.”

My story in the world of photography began way back when I was in Grade two at Geelong West Primary School  (now Ashby). We had art class and that day, Mr. Higgins, the art teacher,  taught us how to make a pin-hole camera. We carefully loaded photo paper into the back of the camera (which essentially was just a cardboard box taped up with black tape to keep as much light out as possible) and were given the instructions to go out into the playground and photograph something. To “photograph” something with a pin-hole camera, you remove the black tape from the front of the camera where the pin-hole is, count however many seconds you’d like to expose the paper to light and then place the tape back over the hole.  I went out and photographed the flag pole. I took my camera back in, unloaded the paper from the camera and stuck the paper in the chemical developer. As the paper lay in the chemical and the image of the flag began to appear, I remember thinking “This is what I want to do when I grow up. I want to be a photographer”. That’s where my passion for photography began, as a 7 year old in Geelong West.  Of course, after that day, whenever anyone asked me “What are you going to do when you finish school?” My answer was always, I’m going to be a photographer. A lot of people reminded me that photography is a hobby and not a real job. But, after working in this industry for 32 years, I think I’ve proved most people wrong! I still have that photo of the flag pole and I still get just as excited to see the portraits I’ve created when they come back from my lab. I still look at every portrait as if it was my first.

Photography for me, and especially family portraits, is about recording a family’s history. Portraits that I create today, will be viewed by the great-grandchildren of the people I’ve photographed. That’s why I place a lot of importance on the portraits I create.  I will turn that special moment in your life into an unforgettable experience that will be treasured for many years to come. Along my journey, I have been acknowledged many times by my peers.
